Dear Family and Friends,

This is indeed a bitter sweet year for us in the Lelas Family. We are now embarking on the planning and organizing of the fifth and final year of the Chuck Lelas Memorial Run/Walk. What started out as an emotional tribute to a man just 8 months after his death has turned into an annual show of admiration five years later. We couldn’t be more grateful to you all.

When Chuck passed away, Jen aspired to do something that would encompass all things important to her Dad. As we all know, family, friends, sports, food, and fun were way up there on his list!! She came up with the idea of a family and friend run/walk followed by a cookout…a fabulous idea other than the fact that no one besides her had ever participated in one before! Not knowing where to order things, how much to order, how many participants…it was like the blind leading the blind…however, step by step we managed to put it all together.

Our ultimate goal was to hold this event for a total of 5 years and to procreate scholarship monies for 5 additional years. We are about to reach the half way point in this journey! As of this point,we have given $24,000 in scholarship aid to deserving student athletes as well as gift $4,000 to American International College Baseball for needed equipment. Additionally, we have been able to put away enough money to continue the scholarship fund for between 3 to 4 years. In order to fulfill our initial commitments discussed above, our financial goal for this year’s run/walk is $18,000.

We would like to extend an invitation to everyone who has ever participated in this event over the past four years to come back and join us for this final tribute. It would mean so much to us as a family to see you all again. Let’s make this fifth and final Chuck Lelas Memorial Run/Walk a huge success!!

We do appreciate each and every one of you…everyone contributed in their own way as a volunteer or a participant….and that’s the sign of a successful event... everyone taking ownership in their own way.
